FlowPlan Projects: Engagement Roadmap

The engagement roadmap describes how FlowPlan support can be applied across a project, from early definition and route development through procurement, integration, commissioning and performance review. It shows the decisions, technical work and deliverables available for sewage and effluent treatment, treated water reuse, biosolids, and equipment and utilities projects. An engagement can cover the full sequence or a defined part of it, depending on the work already completed and the next requirement.

Project engagement basis

The roadmap describes the support available from early project definition through requirements, proposal evaluation, integration, commissioning and performance review. Each engagement is matched to the work already completed and the next decision or deliverable required.

Engagement pathways: The three pathways group the work into three broad areas: decision basis; requirements and evaluation; and delivery and verification. The six roadmap stages below show how these pathways translate into project deliverables.

1) Project decision and existing information

The engagement scope depends on the decision required, the information already available and the review points needed before the next commitment.

  • Project condition: new build, retrofit, expansion, underperformance or a project already in procurement or delivery, including shutdown constraints and operating continuity.
  • Required duty: compliance, capacity, reuse, recovery, residuals management, reliability or operating-cost reduction.
  • Existing information and review points: characterization, existing studies or supplier information, design criteria, KPIs, commissioning and acceptance requirements.

3) Deliverables, responsibilities and system connections

The engagement basis records the information, responsibilities, system connections and review points required at each stage, including what must be confirmed before procurement, installation, commissioning and handover.

Project Engagement Examples

Route:

Biosolids - Composting

The composting project is based on a defined biosolids quantity and quality, bulking-material supply, process controls, intended outlet and fallback route.

  • Route considerations: Thickening or dewatering, mixing, composting method, curing, screening, storage and residuals handling as required.
  • Decision points: Feed quality and contaminants, stabilisation, bulking supply, pathogen and receiving criteria, site capacity, outlet and fallback.
  • Verification: Moisture, temperature-time control, stability, pathogens, contaminants and product quality as required.
